P.C. Ennis published on KevinMD: GLP-1 weight-loss stigma changes what patients disclose

BODY COMPASS NEWS

A new article by Body Compass founder P.C. Ennis has been published on KevinMD, examining how stigma around GLP-1 treatment can shape what patients feel safe enough to disclose.

GLP-1 medicines have changed the biological possibilities of treatment, but they have not removed the moral judgments attached to body size and weight loss. People may still be treated as though medication makes their progress less legitimate, or as though treatment is evidence of weakness rather than a clinical decision.

The article explores why that judgment matters in everyday relationships and clinical care. When people feel they must defend or hide treatment, it can become harder to speak honestly about side effects, changing eating patterns, cost, access, body image or the fear of weight returning.

This reflects a core Body Compass principle: treatment takes place within a social environment. Clear clinical monitoring matters, but so do the questions patients may be afraid to ask and the experiences they may not disclose unless care feels safe.
